Review: Go organic with Dr Bronner wedding favours

I’m a soap lover. Every Christmas and birthday, I ask for more scented soap. So, it was a pure pleasure to review these latest products…organic soaps by Dr Bronner.

When we got married, we were keen to offer our guests favours that would be used, that wouldn’t be left behind or wasted. What better gift to offer than a range of beautifully scented soaps made with organic oils enabling you to keep details of your wedding green as well as unique.

I requested a sample of the All-One Hemp Almond Pure-Castile Bar Soap as almond is one of my favourite smells. And it didn’t disappoint. The subtle, yet genuine aroma was fresh and made me think of holidays in the sun. Even better, the soap froths up a treat and lasts for weeks.

I was also sent a bottle of 18-in-1 Hemp Almond Pure-Castile Soap which not only has that delicious nutty smell to it, but it has 18 uses – hand wash, face wash, body wash, bath bliss, shampoo, shaving, toothpaste, foot bath, deodorant, dog wash, clearing congestion (Peppermint, Eucalyptus or Tea Tree are suggested), laundry, dishes, floors, all-purpose cleaning, fruit and veg wash, plant spray and ant spray!

I’d be thrilled to receive a Dr Bronner soap as a favour at a wedding!

Disclaimer: The Dr Bronner products were given free of charge in return for a review on this blog.

Go on, admit it, you have a guilty pleasure for scripted reality shows such as The Only Way is Essex and Made in Chelsea! I admit to having dabbled with both, with a particular interest in TOWIE as I live in the heart of Essex myself (no, I don’t drive a Range Rover!).

Now, you can live out your very own reality hen party, thanks to Henparty Academy (

Guest outfits: Is black now acceptable at weddings?

So, we are two out of three weddings down for this year. Two out of three new outfits worn and enjoyed. But, it seems things have changed in the world of weddings…and that black is now an acceptable colour for a guest to wear! Who knew!

The rule has always been, you simply don’t wear black (too dull and serious) or white (that’s reserved for the bride) when a guest at a wedding. You’ve obviously always had the occasional rule breaker, but weddings have always been full of guests in brightly coloured outfits.

I admit to being a sinner myself this year.

Mum…just as important as the bride on a wedding day

Aside from my husband, my mum is my absolute best friend. We are super close and it was hugely important to me that my mum had the time of her life on my wedding day. Sadly, her husband – my dear stepdad – is in care with alzheimers and although he could make it along for a precious hour of our wedding, essentially mum faced the day on her own.

With such a rough couple of years behind her, mum felt she needed some professional attention to ensure she didn’t look how she had been feeling…drained, emotional and, in her words, ten years older than she was.

On the day, my mum could not have looked more incredible. Despite not being a one for make-up previously, she allowed the expert to work her magic and I’m sure she turned as many heads as me, the bride, on the day.

I’m sure my mum isn’t alone when it comes to feeling the pressure of looking her best on her daughter’s big day. In fact, wedding specialist make-up artist Celina Keywood ( has made it her mission to make mums of brides and grooms – and even nans – feel a million dollars on their special day.

Beauty: Giving 3D miracle mascara a try

So unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few weeks, you will have seen and heard endless tales of a miracle-working new mascara. The Younique 3D Fiber Lash Mascara is arriving from America into the UK in the truck load as women scramble to get a piece of the action.

bridal make-up

When a friend of mine managed to get hold of the magic potion, I just had to give it a try for myself. I love my lashes. But, I blooming hate the battle I have each morning with my mascara, applying layer after layer until my invisible blonde eyelashes show themselves. I’ve invested several times in semi-permanent lashes, but of course they only last for a couple of weeks. So, the thought of being able to create the look of striking false lashes each and every day by yourself intrigued – and excited – me.

Hair: Style ideas for shorter bridal hair

When I got married, I knew I simply wanted to look the very best version of myself. I wanted fairly natural make-up and for my short, graduated bob to just be given some oomph. So, I asked my hair stylist to give me a trendy big blow dry on the day, keeping the style familiar but with just a bit more body to it.

I always knew that’s how I wanted my hair. I’d had it this length for a few years and didn’t want to suddenly look different on my wedding day – after all, this look is what my husband fell in love with!

However, I have become intrigued at what the options could have been, purely as it never really dawned on me there was anything you could do with hair this short. I’ve discovered the options are endless for brides with shorter hair – the experts can even turn your short bobbed hair into an up-do, with or without the use of extensions!

I went along to The Strand ( to see Jodie who treated my appointment like a bridal hair trial. The results blew me away and made me look like I had far more hair than I actually do.

Advice: Warning over fake online wedding dresses

Brides seeking a bargain by ordering their wedding dress online are being warned of the risks. Endless brides are being left heartbroken and out of pocket when the dream gown they thought they were ordering turned out to be a nightmare copy, with cheap fabric and poor workmanship.

My friends over at beautiful dress shop Adore ( – where I bought my own stunning gown – are keen to alert brides to the downfalls of ordering a dress you’ve never seen in real life. They are supporting the online campaign to name and shame the illegitimate suppliers.
