Drinks: Cocktails and cider, anyone?
I’m not a big drinker, but am partial to a cocktail or a nice cold cider on a special occasion. So, with an inbox full of emails about the latest developments in this area of the booze market, I had to share.
Don’t panic if you’re on a strict weight management plan for your big day, as one even states it’s low in calories and full of real fruit juice – what’s not to like!
Whether you’re stocking up for your hen or stag parties, looking for somewhere to celebrate or want a signature cocktail for your big day, check these out for inspiration…

Short Pornstar cocktail
Now, if I had to have a cocktail named after myself, including the word short would be a good start, being just 5ft 3ins. The pornstar bit, not so much. But, forget the name and check out this little beauty.
The Short Pornstar is a mini Tequila Rose – strawberry cream liqueur with a kick of tequila – cocktail with a chunky wedge of passion fruit to add a little zing. Easy to make, they could be the ideal drink to wow your pals with at your hen party.
Spring cocktail menu at Island Grill, London
While the weather threatens to turn into something that resembles spring, the mixologists at Island Grill have crafted a seasonal cocktail menu.
On the doorstep of London’s Hyde Park, the restaurant offers tipples including Honey Whisky Sour with whisky, lemon juice and honey; Green Tea Mojito with brewed green tea, fresh mint, rum, soda and sugar; and Sweet and Herby with gin, lemonade, honey and thyme.
So, gather your best pals together and work your way through the elaborate cocktail list made from fresh, seasonal ingredients – their honey is harvested from hives on the roof, don’t you know!
Rose Garden Cocktail, The Mews, Sopwell House, Hertfordshire
This time of year makes me turn my attentions to my garden. I love the way it bursts into life around now and devote hours – and pounds – to crafting it throughout the warmer months. So, this one interests me very much.
In honour of the Chelsea Flower Show next week, The Mews at Sopwell House has devised the “blooming marvellous” (their pun, not mine!) Rose Garden Cocktail. What I love most is that it’s served in its very own mini watering can, brilliant! The Mews has a love of the show, having had its own gardens designed by gold medallist Ann-Marie Powell.
Created from Hendricks gin, homemade rose syrup, lemon juice and muddled cucumber topped with soda water, you can almost imagine stepping into the most perfectly pruned garden while sipping away.
The Mews can be found in the rolling countryside in St Albans, with 16 Mews Suites surrounding a botanical garden, plus a spa and restaurant. Sounds like that’s your hen weekend venue sorted…
