Meet the expert: Kara Kelly of Kara’s Designs
Meet…Mrs Kara Kelly. You may recognise Kara from my real wedding feature back at Christmas. She was the one with the real reindeer and sleigh – and Timberland boots – for her big day! Aside from being wife to David, Kara is the graphic designer behind Kara’s Designs (www.karasdesigns.co.uk).
Kara was the very first supplier I made contact with when we got engaged. I had spotted her Once Upon A Time stationery range on Facebook and knew if the time ever came, I had to have them for my own wedding. Being a newly-wed herself, she knows all too well how important it is to get these finer details of a girl’s big day absolutely perfect.
Kara tells me how she crafts the most personal stationery for every step of a wedding… “I offer all of your stationery needs, right from the offset. So, save the dates, then wedding invites later on. I can help with all the on the day stationery, including table plans, guest books, place names etc. Then, finally, thank you cards…and christening invites if children are made on the honeymoon!
“I love a bride who comes to me with a design and asks me if I can help, so long as they don’t ask me to copy anyone else’s design as I won’t do that. I try to offer different ways of inviting guests, rather than the usual white and gold wedding invitation. I want to offer designs to fit couples’ themes and not just a standard invite.
I also love to help create something for the couple on their big day. I never really realised how exciting weddings are until I had to organise my own last year and getting the perfect invites just make it all real. If you have the right invites, you will feel so proud to send them out to your guests. I love to make my brides and grooms happy.
“Ever since I did graphic design at school, I fell in love with it. I loved everything about it, so studied it at college and university. This is where I learnt about computer design, but I have also always been crafty and always made things out of paper. I am always learning new skills and techniques, even now.
“My business isn’t solely based on weddings. In fact, one of my biggest sellers is my butterfly christening invites. I create invites, greetings and stationery for all occasions; you just have to ask and I can probably help.
I love my work because no two days are the same and no two brides and grooms are the same.”
