Real wedding: Lisa and Lee’s golden Great Gatsby wedding
Meet…Mrs Lisa Shorter. After waiting 11 long years for Lee to pop the question, she enjoyed the wedding of her dreams…with a Great Gatsby and gold themed wedding.
Handing over the blog to the newly-wed…
“We picked the lovely Newland Hall (www.newlandhall.co.uk) to say our vows and we tied the knot outside, in front of our closest friends and family. After a lovely year and four months of planning and crafting, it was quite emotional to see everything come together and I was blown away with how beautiful it all looked on the day. We didn’t have a theme as such, but I took inspiration from the Great Gatsby and got slightly obsessed with everything gold.
“In the lead up to the wedding, I was in my element, spending most weekends pinning, researching and crafting! I put my mind to lots of little (and some pretty big!) projects…we collected and spray-painted (gold, of course) more than 60 jars and then decorated them all with pretty ribbons. They were arranged outside for the ceremony and on our guest and top table with a mix of flowers and tea lights – they looked gorgeous.
“I designed our save the dates, invitations, menus, place names and table numbers and went a bit Pinterest crazy at times. I also spent a surprising amount of time making Mr & Mrs bunting which hung over the bar in the marquee.
“For our favours, we kept it simple with heart-shaped choccies and a mini photo fridge magnet – with a caricature of myself and Lee, no less! And for our three flower girls, my now sister-in-law made lovely goodie bags with all the essentials to keep them entertained.
“By chance, I also stumbled across a fab designer on Facebook, Emerald Paper Design (www.facebook.com/emeraldpaperdesign), who created our order of service and table plan which tied in perfectly with our other stationery. We were also fortunate enough to have a close family friend make our Gatsby inspired cake – it looked and tasted amazing!
“As everyone always says, the day did go by in a flash; from our beautiful ceremony to the brilliant speeches and fun that followed, it was the most perfect day made by all our amazing friends and family.
“I absolutely loved planning our wedding and thinking about all the little details that you never knew you’d care so much about. I got lots of inspiration for our day from blogs and magazines featuring real weddings, so here’s hoping our wedding can inspire more brides to be!”
Introduce us to your favourite wedding suppliers…
Mrs Shorter said: “We found so many lovely suppliers, local and further afield, who really helped to make the day extra special. Our beautiful flowers were supplied by the Traditional Vintage Flower Company (www.tradvintflower.co.uk), our matt gold sequin linen came from Gilded Linens (www.gildedlinens.com), Doris Loves (www.dorisloves.co.uk) provided our giant LOVE letters and our amazing photographer, Steve Fuller Photography (www.stevefullerphoto.co.uk), captured so many wonderful memories for us. We also arrived in style in a gorgeous black and ivory Regent Landaulette from Aristocars (www.aristocars.co.uk). It was lovely being pampered by Extend My Beauty (www.extendmybeauty.co.uk) and Bride Beautiful (www.bride-beautiful.com) who did our hair and make-up on the wedding morning – the perfect start to the day!”
