I’m a big fan of Valentine’s Day. In fact, you’ve probably already worked out, I’m a fan of any occasion! But, one that involves me, my husband and a bit of romance is always going to make me happy.
As with everything we do, we don’t like to follow the norm and just book a meal out on February 14. We like to find something just a touch different to do – that may even mean dining out on an alternative day that week and then indulging in an intimate meal for two at home on the day of love itself. It doesn’t need to be elaborate or expensive, but it does have to be special.
If you’re looking for inspiration to make your Valentine’s Day go with a bang, take a look at these ideas I’ve come across… » Read more
I’m a bit of an afternoon tea fan. They’re a beautiful way to celebrate an occasion or to catch-up with friends and loved ones. Whether it be at a vintage tea room, a posh hotel or in my own kitchen, I love the vision of cake stands piled high with goodies and making use of mismatched china.
I’m also a huge fan of French patissier Eric Lanlard, having worked with him a few times in the past when we both did some work with Sainsbury’s. Mr Robertson and I had the pleasure of sampling his delicious handiwork recently when he provided the cakes for our friends who married live on TV’s This Morning, too.
It’s been a couple of months since the husband and I have packed a bag and headed off for a romantic break. So, when the opportunity for a road trip to Bury St Edmunds and a stay at The Angel Hotel came up, we were there like a shot.
I had spotted this pretty, ivy clad hotel when I visited the Suffolk town for their wonderful Christmas market back in December and had made a mental note to have a stay there sometime. It proved to be the most ideal spot to enjoy a romantic, relaxing getaway, with everything on the doorstep we could need, yet with a calm and peaceful environment to unwind in and just be together. We adore our home, but the fact I missed our Contemporary Suite when we left says it all. And that copper bath, wow. » Read more
As soon as Christmas festivities are over with, my thoughts turn to the first romantic date in the calendar…Valentine’s Day. I love any excuse to turn on the romance and spend some lovey-dovey time with Mr Robertson. Although we don’t tend to splash out on expensive gifts at this time of year, we love finding more thoughtful, meaningful presents which are special to us and our relationship. And, of course, who doesn’t enjoy being taken out or whisked away at any time of year!
Stuck for ideas this year? Worry not as here’s a round-up of a few of my favourite finds this Valentine’s… » Read more
Today is a super special day for my precious mum and stepdad.
Twenty-five years ago today, they vowed to love and care for each other, no matter what life had in store for them.
My stepdad is in care with Alzheimer’s and yet the love between the pair of them gets stronger every day.
We put on a surprise lunch – with silver themed decorations – at my stepdad’s care home at the weekend to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary.
Today, mum placed a brand new wedding ring on her husband’s finger and said it took her back to their special day 25 years ago.
Just reminds me once again how important marrying the right person is. For some, sitting together holding hands is all they are left with so it’s vital we pick the person we’re content doing this with. Mr Robertson and I love spending time together doing nothing and we know how important that will be in years to come.
I’ve written before on the blog about the possibility of having that destination wedding without leaving the UK. And I’ve struck upon what looks to be another stunning option. The Alexandra (www.hotelalexandra.co.uk) sits perched on a cliff-top overlooking the harbour and Lyme Bay at Lyme Regis.
There’s nothing better than those first few days after you’ve said your vows and become husband and wife. If you’re lucky enough to go straight away on honeymoon, you’ll find yourselves floating around on your own little cloud. More and more, couples are delaying their honeymoons, though, maybe to choose a better time of year to visit their country of choice or to give them time to save. To keep the wedding thrill going in the meantime, a perfect idea is to head off on a minimoon – a short, more local break away.
And I’ve come across what looks like the ideal place to start your married life in luxury. Dart Marina Hotel & Spa (www.dartmarina.com) offers a stylish home on the banks of the River Dart, in Devon. Number One gives couples the option to celebrate in luxurious surroundings, relaxing on a private terrace on the riverside. » Read more
My husband and I (yep, still love saying that!) recently celebrated six years since we found each other through online dating. In fact, it was a whole week of me saying “this time six years ago, we…found each other/met for the first time/etc etc”. I love spending that week looking back on where we came from and how far we have travelled. I’ve even got those very first emails all printed out and stuck in a book so we never forget the first words said to each other – well, that’s the beauty of meeting online, there’s a record we can keep forever.
When good friends told us they’d been to the London restaurant made famous by one of our favourite TV shows, First Dates, we knew we had to celebrate our “anniversary” there. If you haven’t enjoyed the first couple of series, you’re missing out! It’s basically a real restaurant taken over by a telly crew to film couples on their first blind date. Some melt your heart and give you hopes for their future, while others are a disaster waiting to happen. It’s compulsive viewing and so we were hugely excited at the opportunity to dine at the Paternoster Chop House (www.paternosterchophouse.co.uk) overlooking St Paul’s. » Read more
We’re two years into married life now. It does still feel so new and yet in some ways, we’re already an old married couple! Thankfully, Loyes Diamond Jewellers (http://loyesdiamonds.ie/type/engagement-rings) has come up with this humorous infographic to remind all us marrieds what to do – and what NOT to do – after the wedding…. » Read more
