I’m a big fan of Valentine’s Day. In fact, you’ve probably already worked out, I’m a fan of any occasion! But, one that involves me, my husband and a bit of romance is always going to make me happy.
As with everything we do, we don’t like to follow the norm and just book a meal out on February 14. We like to find something just a touch different to do – that may even mean dining out on an alternative day that week and then indulging in an intimate meal for two at home on the day of love itself. It doesn’t need to be elaborate or expensive, but it does have to be special.
If you’re looking for inspiration to make your Valentine’s Day go with a bang, take a look at these ideas I’ve come across… » Read more
It’s less than two weeks until the most romantic time of the year – Valentine’s Day! Whether you’re on the verge of getting married, are already old marrieds (like us!) or simply have your eye on someone special, it’s fun to make a fuss on February 14.
Take a look at this little round-up of 20 cute gifts and ideas I’ve struck upon on social media to make your day of romance go with a bang…
I’m a bit of an afternoon tea fan. They’re a beautiful way to celebrate an occasion or to catch-up with friends and loved ones. Whether it be at a vintage tea room, a posh hotel or in my own kitchen, I love the vision of cake stands piled high with goodies and making use of mismatched china.
I’m also a huge fan of French patissier Eric Lanlard, having worked with him a few times in the past when we both did some work with Sainsbury’s. Mr Robertson and I had the pleasure of sampling his delicious handiwork recently when he provided the cakes for our friends who married live on TV’s This Morning, too.
As soon as Christmas festivities are over with, my thoughts turn to the first romantic date in the calendar…Valentine’s Day. I love any excuse to turn on the romance and spend some lovey-dovey time with Mr Robertson. Although we don’t tend to splash out on expensive gifts at this time of year, we love finding more thoughtful, meaningful presents which are special to us and our relationship. And, of course, who doesn’t enjoy being taken out or whisked away at any time of year!
Stuck for ideas this year? Worry not as here’s a round-up of a few of my favourite finds this Valentine’s… » Read more
There’s nothing like giving a card with the most perfect wording. I spend a lot of time picking the right cards to suit a person and occasion. So when it came to going to the vow renewal of my school friend Charlie Smith of Truly I Do (http://trulyido.weebly.com), I had to find something perfect…
Have you ever tried to find a card for a vow renewal, though?? They’re pretty much non-existent, particularly if you want a cool one.
So, the occasion called for the skill and wit of Love Layla Designs (www.lovelayladesigns.co.uk) who cracks me up with her brutally honest range of cards. While even Love Layla’s collection didn’t yet include a vow renewal card, it was no problem at all to have a bespoke card made just for Mr and Mrs Smith.
And here it is…cool, or what!
Disclaimer: Love Layla Designs supplied this card free of charge.
You may recall, recently mum and I visited Sussex to check out a couple of wedding venues to tell you about. The first was a beautiful seaside themed hotel right on the beach of Camber Sands. Our next stop was a complete contrast and stunning in a different way.
The George in Rye (www.thegeorgeinrye.com) is a sixteenth century building on the cobbled streets of the medieval town. The Grade II listed bolt-hole offers a wealth of interest for foodies and design lovers, with rooms individually created, each with their own theme. » Read more
There’s nothing better than those first few days after you’ve said your vows and become husband and wife. If you’re lucky enough to go straight away on honeymoon, you’ll find yourselves floating around on your own little cloud. More and more, couples are delaying their honeymoons, though, maybe to choose a better time of year to visit their country of choice or to give them time to save. To keep the wedding thrill going in the meantime, a perfect idea is to head off on a minimoon – a short, more local break away.
And I’ve come across what looks like the ideal place to start your married life in luxury. Dart Marina Hotel & Spa (www.dartmarina.com) offers a stylish home on the banks of the River Dart, in Devon. Number One gives couples the option to celebrate in luxurious surroundings, relaxing on a private terrace on the riverside. » Read more
Being made redundant can actually become the most wonderful opportunity to take the plunge and follow your dreams. It happened to me six years ago and I’ve never looked back with my freelance writing business. When faced with the same dilemma, Emma Fone took the leap of faith and launched Heart & Sole Keepsake Jewellery (http://www.heartandsolejewellery.co.uk) Now operating full-time around husband Robbie and three daughters, Emma reveals all about her thriving business which has recently expanded to include a wedding range.
Some of my favourite things in the world are cosy character hotels, time to relax and enjoy a pampering and, of course, beautiful weddings! So, a trip to The Swan at Lavenham (www.theswanatlavenham.co.uk) was pretty much a perfect offering for me.
My husband and I visited for his birthday and so were looking for an ultra special overnight stay and we were not disappointed. The higgledy piggledy 15th century hotel, spa and wedding venue is among a charming and characterful medieval Suffolk countryside village…if oak beams, wonky floors and history are your thing, then this is the place to go. » Read more
This last week has all been about celebrating my husband’s birthday. I love an occasion (you know this about me by now!) and I love spoiling my loved ones and so I go all out on birthdays. This year, I was able to give Mr Robertson a giant surprise…an oversized balloon by Love Me Do Balloons (www.facebook.com/lovemedoballoons)! Ok, so when he arrived home to be faced with it, he almost had a heart attack, but he loved it once his heart stopped racing!
