Venue: Finding everything you need at Ashford International Hotel

When Mr Robertson and I were invited to spend a night at Ashford International Hotel, I must admit we were not expecting anything glamorous. Thinking the location would be the selling point – a short drive from the Eurostar at Ashford International station – we went along with open minds but low expectations.

Well, you know that old saying don’t judge a book by its cover, that came to mind when we found out what is behind the less than inspiring name.

Because, the hotel, regardless of its name, literally offers brides and grooms everything they could wish for for their big day. Want a small, intimate wedding? The Courtyard Suite and the Garden Suite are ideal as they host just 50 people each for a wedding breakfast.

Getaway: A night at wedding venue The Swan at Lavenham

Some of my favourite things in the world are cosy character hotels, time to relax and enjoy a pampering and, of course, beautiful weddings! So, a trip to The Swan at Lavenham (www.theswanatlavenham.co.uk) was pretty much a perfect offering for me.

wedding venue

My husband and I visited for his birthday and so were looking for an ultra special overnight stay and we were not disappointed. The higgledy piggledy 15th century hotel, spa and wedding venue is among a charming and characterful medieval Suffolk countryside village…if oak beams, wonky floors and history are your thing, then this is the place to go.

Venue: Wedding food heaven at The Old Manor Hotel

Usually, when we review wedding venue hotels, my write-up focuses on the scenery, the setting and the backdrop for your wedding day. Our latest trip – to The Old Manor Hotel (www.oldmanorhotel.com) – has all of those things in abundance…but I have to start here with the food. Oh. My. Goodness. I can hand on heart say the wedding supper prepared for Mr Robertson and I here was THE best meal I’ve ever had in my life…

Venue: Our romantic stay at Hotel du Vin, Tunbridge Wells

One of the many things we loved about our wedding venue was that our nearest and dearest could celebrate with us in the most beautifully homely surroundings. Although the venue was large, it had intimate spaces which meant our wedding had a cosy and comfortable feel to it.

Hotel du Vin

When we were invited to stay at the Hotel du Vin (www.hotelduvin.com), in Royal Tunbridge Wells, I didn’t for a moment realise I would get a similar feel about such a different venue to our own. We married in a Tudor mansion set among 40 acres of parkland, while Hotel du Vin is a converted Georgian mansion with a French feel in the heart of historic Tunbridge Wells town.

My stay at a boutique Norfolk hotel

Last week was my precious mum’s 60th birthday. As my stepdad is in care with Alzheimers, I saw it as my job to make sure she had the most wonderful birthday on his behalf. After a few days of family gatherings and surprises, I whisked mum off to Norfolk to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

I could not have picked a more perfect base for our three-day trip than Strattons Hotel (www.strattonshotel.com). The small boutique hotel offers rooms, suites and self-catering apartments, as well as a restaurant and cafe deli. While our visit was to celebrate a special birthday, the venue also offers the ideal package for a classy hen weekend or back-drop to an intimate wedding reception.
