Venue: A UK beach wedding at The Gallivant
Torn between the desire for a beach wedding and the want to have all of your family and friends with you? I have found the solution! The Gallivant (www.the gallivant.co.uk) sits across the road from the stunning sand dunes of Camber Sands beach in East Sussex. Inspired by the coastal retreats of California, The Gallivant not only has the seaside location, but is also the most incredible wedding venue you could wish for.
My mum and I went for a visit and were blown away by what we found. In the weeks leading up to our trip, my mum had been swooning over images online of the venue, with its New England decor and restful haven feel. The reality lived up to expectations and we enjoyed the most relaxing 24-hour “holiday”.
Our light and airy Deck Room conjured up thoughts of the most wonderful beach holidays and yet we hadn’t even left British soil. With our own private deck, even when we weren’t over the road at the beach, we felt the holiday vibe. Just outside in the corridor, there was an even more unique touch…the guilty pleasure cupboard, stocked full of drinks, food and treats which we were invited to visit whenever we liked, simply leaving a note of what we had taken.
Donning our flipflops and sunglasses, we couldn’t wait to check out the beach over the road. Wow, you would be hard pushed to find a bigger, cleaner, more pretty beach without jumping on a plane, with pure white sand as far as the eye could see and plenty of grassy sand dunes to set up camp in. We later discovered these dunes are where wedding welcome drinks are served after ceremonies at The Gallivant. Just imagine leading your guests to the most beautiful beach to celebrate your nuptials. The experience and the photos are everything that would attract a couple to a destination wedding; yet here at The Gallivant, you can have everyone you care about with you as there is no international travel required.
Mum and I enjoyed a delicious three-course meal on the evening of our stay in the quiet and intimate hotel restaurant. Again, we learnt this is the area which is radically transformed into the ceremony room for couples wishing to marry at The Gallivant. Beyond this main part of the building lies the jewel in the venue’s crown…the permanent marquee – beach styled in summer, fully heated and turned into winter wonderland during the colder months.
This is where we fell in love once more with this unique venue. With everything I love, from bunting to long trestle tables to reclaimed wood and all the subtle touches you’d expect from this type of location. I would just love to be invited to a wedding here; I imagine guests – and of course brides and grooms – feel they have escaped off on holiday when attending a wedding at The Gallivant, featuring a trip to Camber Sands beach. We certainly thoroughly enjoyed our overnight visit…and still have the grains of sand in our suitcases to remember it by!
